Metabolism of the Steroid Hormones

چکیده
The biological relationship between ac-estradiol and estrone has been established by the isolation of the latter compound from the urine of normal and ovariectomized female and normal male guinea pigs (2, 3) and man (4,5) following the administration of cu-estradiol. In view of the conclusion of Pincus (6), that a-estradiol is not converted to estrone by the ovariectomized rabbit, it was considered of interest to investigate the fate of cr-estradiol in the rabbit by methods involving the isolation of crystalline urinary metabolites. The results of such an investigation are the subject of the present communication and demonstrate that, as in the guinea pig and man, cr-estradiol is converted to estrone. Furthermore, this transformation does occur in the absence of both the ovaries and uterus. We have also been able to isolate /?-estradiol from the urine of ovariectomized-hysterectomized rabbits to which a-estradiol was administered. p-Estradiol has thus far been found in nature only in the urine of pregnant mares (7-9). Whether it is synthesized de novo in the ovaries, the placenta, or the adrenal cortex of the mare or arises as a metabolite of estrone has not been established. From the urine of normal rabbits to which estrone was administered, Stroud (10) obtained an impure phenolic compound which he believed to be p-estradiol. The work reported here demonstrates that cr-estradiol is metabolized to fi-estradiol in the rabbit, estrone presumably being an intermediate. The ovaries and uterus are not essential

Effects of sex steroid hormones on neuromedin S and neuromedin U2 receptor expression following experimental traumatic brain injury
Objective(s): Neuroprotective effects of female gonadal steroids are mediated through several pathways involving multiple peptides and receptors after traumatic brain injury (TBI). Two of these peptides are including the regulatory peptides neuromedin U (NMU) and neuromedin S (NMS), and their common receptor neuromedin U2 receptor (NMUR2). This study investigates the effects of physiological do...
متن کاملThe changes in stress indices and some steroid hormones of Cyprinus carpio broodstocks in different stages of artificial reproduction
Blood is directly involved in many metabolic processes, and blood and hormonal assessments can be helpful in diagnosing the physiological status of fish. In this study, changes in stress indices (glucose and cortisol) and steroid hormones (testosterone, estradiol and progesterone) of sea carp broodstocks in three stages, before hormone injection, after injection and after artificial reproducti...

Sex steroid hormones play important roles in many physiological processes, particularly in the reproduction of teleostei. Therefore, study of steroid hormones in fish is one of the important indicators of reproductive biology. In the present research, serum steroid hormones such as testosterone (T), 17β-estradiol (E2) and progesterone (P) in Esox lucius brood stocks, during one year, from ...

Objective(s): The purpose of this study was to investigate the change in plasma anandamide (AEA) levels throughout the normal menstrual cycle, and to analyze the relationship among AEA, sex steroids and gonadotrophins. Materials and Methods: The patients were fertile women with normal menstrual cycle, proposed to get in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment due to oviduct obstruction or male infe...

This study was performed to evaluate the best dose of Ovulin hormone in artificial reproduction of female sea carp broodstocks in the spring of 2021 in the bone reproduction and breeding center of Sijual in Bandar-e-Turkmen, Golestan province. 12 adult female sea carp with an average weight of 1750.46 ± 312.58 g were injected at doses of 0.4, 0.5, 0.6 and 0.7 ml / kg body weight of Ovulin hormo...
متن کاملSandifish (Holothuria scabra) ameliorates aging in menopausal women by increasing estradiol hormones
Introduction: Sandfish (Holothuria scabra) is a marine species generally sold as a raw material that has been dried even though the meat contains steroid hormone with high economic value, which has the potential to become a source of safe natural steroid hormone. This study was aimed to look at the potency of sandfish as an anti-aging for menopausal women. Sandfish could become a source of natu...
